Protecting God's Children

Divine Child Catholic School is committed to keeping children safe by following the Archdiocese of Detroit guidelines. The Archdiocese of Detroit combines best practices with continuous improvement to increase awareness of safe programs and surroundings and to empower children, youth and adults to avoid and report unsafe or harmful situation.

At Divine Child High School and Divine Child Elementary School, every staff member, adult volunteer, and teen volunteer is required to attend training in the prevention, identification, and reporting of abuse.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST REGISTER AND ATTEND A PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN SEMINAR WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF START DATE.

Teen Volunteers: All youth in Grades 9-12 who volunteer in a direct service role involving children, must attend a Called to Serve training workshop. Since teens are minors, the Archdiocese of Detroit recommends volunteers or employers under age 18 working with children be paired with an adult or another teen and be regularly supervised by an adult. Volunteers ages 15-18 are required to have parental permission to attend the Protecting God's Children Seminar and to have a criminal background check.

PGC POLICY UPDATE

The Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) is updating their Safe Environments policies.

Recertification is required for ALL existing volunteers and employees who completed Protecting God’s Children (PGC) before January 1, 2020. Recertification must be completed by November 1, 2023.

REGISTER FOR PGC

All 100,000+ AOD‐registered Virtus users were sent an email (from Virtus) in late June and early July with links for recertification.

If you did not receive an email about your recertification, login to your existing Virtus account. You should not create a new account if you have taken Protecting God’s Children in the past.

Once you have logged into your Virtus account you should see the assigned "Protecting God’s Children and Vulnerable Adults" training under the Home tab/Current Training.
