Fine Arts Scholarships

Each year the Fine Art’s Department selects one or two exemplary art students who have excelled in their artistic studies over the course of the year and awards them a $1,000 scholarship.  This scholarship honors the memory of Brian Zemba ’92, the late brother of current DCHS art teacher Matt Zemba ’94, and Michael Grysko, the late brother of current DCHS art department head and art teacher, Walter Grysko ‘07. 

The Fine Arts Farewell Scholarship is awarded to  graduating seniors who are pursuing art in college, based upon this student’s artistic talent and body of artwork over his or her four years at DCHS, as selected by a panel of art teachers and DCHS administrators.  The winner receives a $1,000 scholarship toward his or her studies. 

As a Catholic school, it is our goal to promote all that is good, true and beautiful. In a specific way, Catholic artists are called to respond to the profound desire of the human heart for beauty. This competition seeks to promote the important vocation of Catholic artists who work to reflect God’s glory through their work. The students engage in a formation activity on the Catholic view of beauty, present a proposal of their entry artwork to the art department, write a one page reflection on the experience and their piece, and submit the final artwork for review.

The Make a Difference Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has studied in the applied arts field and is pursuing a consumer or family science degree in college.  This scholarship is in honor of the former Divine Child home economics, applied arts and family sciences teachers. The recipient earns a $500 scholarship.
