Boys Soccer
Boys Soccer - Dean Kowalski
I am proud to say that I have been a part of the Divine Child Soccer family for 23 years as a former player, JV Coach, Assistant Varsity Coach, and Head Varsity Coach. This season will be my 8th season as the Varsity Head Coach. As a player, I had the luxury of playing for Mark Kibbit, and then joining his coaching staff in 2003. During that time, I also coached with former Varsity Coach Eric Haley. From my time with them, I learned the important principles that are vital to having a successful soccer program. Our goal is to always have a faith filled team with players who display positive mental toughness. This leads to player success on and off the field.
I am a graduate of Divine Child Elementary ‘96 and High School ‘00. After high school, I went on to earn degrees from Eastern Michigan University ‘06 (BS in Special Education) and Boise State University ‘10 (Masters in Ed. Tech). I have taught Special Education in Livonia Public Schools since 2006 at Emerson Middle School.
I currently live in Plymouth with my wife Lauren who is also a 00’ graduate of Divine Child. I am blessed to coach at Divine Child with the best assistant coaches in the state. We are excited for the bright future of Divine Child Soccer.
Boys Tennis
Boys Tennis - Ryan Carlson
I’ve been coaching tennis at Divine Child since 2010, starting with the girls’ varsity team and then joining the boys team later that fall. Over the last 12 seasons, I’ve been very fortunate to have coached many competitive teams for both the boys and the girls and attended the state tournament with both. The boy’s tennis team has a long standing tradition of being one of the most respectful and most sportsmanlike teams I’ve been a part of and I look forward to continuing that trend.
I’ve been playing competitive sports from the time I was about 3 years old starting with hockey and baseball, then moving to tennis and golf. I’ve been playing tennis since the age of 10 and carry a USTA ranking of 4.5. I'm also an avid golfer and coach of the J.V. Woodhaven Boys golf team and carry an index of 3.5. I’ve also coached hockey for the last 6 years, coaching both of my daughter’s teams and still play competitively. I love coaching because I’m not only able to pass along all the knowledge that I’ve gained from great coaches over my lifetime, but I’m also able to help mold these young athletes into great adults.
Football
Football - Chris Laney
As I enter my second year as the head football coach at Divine Child, I am truly humbled by this opportunity. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that has been instilled here since Tony Versaci. I am a graduate of St. Michael's (Livonia) '93 and Detroit Catholic Central '97. After high school, I went on to earn degrees from Henry Ford CC '99, Eastern Michigan '03 (BS in Educ.) , Marygrove College '06 (Master's in Educ.) and Wayne St. University (Nationally Cert in Adapted Phys Ed).
I began my teaching career in the Novi Comm. School Dist. in 2003 and am still employed there as a middle school Phys. Ed and Health teacher. I also began coaching high school football in 2003 with the Novi District and have coached every fall since then. Throughout my coaching career, I have also coached at Berkley High School and have been with Divine Child since 2012.
My wife Mary is a '95 graduate of Divine Child and is the current girl's varsity basketball coach. Together, we reside in Dearborn Heights with our three children: Ellen, Niall, and Owen. All three of our children are currently enrolled at Divine Child Elem.
Girls Cross Country
Girls Cross Country - Alli Unger
I'm thrilled to begin my coaching role at Divine Child for this upcoming season! The Cross Country program has a strong history, and I'm excited to be a part of that tradition. While this will be my first year coaching for DC, I coached at Lutheran High School Westland for 10 years, and 2 years at the collegiate level at Concordia University Ann Arbor.
I fell in love with cross country and its family-like community in high school, and it has been such a blessing in my life. I'm a graduate of Denver Lutheran High School ('03), and went on to compete in college at Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW), where I ran with and met my husband, Dan.
I graduated from CUW ('07) with a Secondary Education degree with an emphasis in Mathematics, and began my teaching career later that year. I earned my Master's degree also from CUW in School Counseling ('17). I currently work in the Counseling Department at DC as one of the School Counselors.
I look at coaching (and teaching) as an opportunity to develop Christian leaders, and help student-athletes to recognize the gifts that they have been given. I believe that many of the characteristics that enable you to be a successful cross country runner also translate into success in your personal and professional life, namely grit, perseverance, and a strong team mentality.
My husband, Dan, is also a coach (Wrestling & Track at Lutheran High School Westland). We reside in Dearborn with our four children: Kara, Dathan, Max and Julia.
Girls Golf
Girls Golf - Dan Berry
I have been coaching girls golf at Divine Child High School for the past 8 years. I absolutely love the game and feel privileged to share my golf knowledge and experience at Divine Child
High School where all three of my daughters attended and played Varsity Golf. What started off as coaching my oldest daughter in her senior year, ended up with me being able to coach my youngest two daughters through their four years on the Varsity Golf Team.
I retired from Ford Motor Company in 2020 after working 30 years as a Senior Designer in Product Development. My wife Lori and I have been parishioners at Divine Child for 29 years,
and our three daughters attended both the Divine Child Elementary and High School.
I am looking forward to another great season with the girls golf team and grateful to be a part of this wonderful community!
Pom Pon
Pom Pon - Emily Dombrowski
Pom has been a passion of mine ever since 2007 when I joined the Divine Child Varsity Pom team as a freshman. After graduating from DC in 2011, I went on to pursue my accounting degree at Wayne State University where I realized I was not ready to give up my love for pom. I made my way back to DC pom as an assistant coach to head coach Sarah Leonard 2014-2020. Stepping into the head coach position the past couple years has been nothing short of a dream.
I am a Project Controls Specialist for Burns & McDonnell, an engineering and construction firm located in Detroit. I grew up in Dearborn Heights, raised in a family who had nothing but love for the Divine Child community. My 2 siblings and myself are all graduates of Divine Child.
Coaching the pom team over the past 8 years has been the most rewarding experience. There is nothing that fills my heart more than getting the opportunity to coach so many incredible athletes, working with them to reach their goals, and knowing they will carry these skills with them to go on and become successful young women.
Sideline Cheerleading
Sideline Cheerleading - Amber Genevich
My name is Amber Genevich and I am the current head coach for the cheer program at Divine Child. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in Journalism and English. Prior to that, I attended Divine Child from 1994 to 1998 where I cheered for Tricia and Mark Yost. I began coaching in 1999 and took over as the head coach in 2005. I remained as head coach until 2017 when I took a short leave to focus on my family and young children. Now I am back and ready to continue building on this tremendous program. I am proud to say this program has been Catholic League Champions since 2003, advanced to the State Finals 12 times where they were awarded Runner-Up 4 of those years and assisted many athletes to go on and cheer at collegiate level.
During the school year, I work as a preschool teacher and find great joy in instilling the foundation of education in children. I am also very involved in the Parent Guild at the elementary school helping to coordinate events. Finally, I work side by side with the CYO cheer coaches working to grow their program and create a unified cheer program across our entire campus.
I married my husband Michael in 2009 at Divine Child. We enjoy life together in Allen Park raising our 3 children: Harper, Mikey and Hadley. Our children all attend DC elementary and are involved in CYO sports.
A quote my parents instill in me when I was young that I still live by today is, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Swimming
Swimming - Laura Scheuer
I look forward to a wonderful season as I start my first year as the head swim coach. I am a graduate of North Farmington High ('13) and throughout high school I worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor, and swam with my high school team for cross-conditioning. I went on to study chemistry, mathematics, and secondary ed at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor ('17) and recently completed my Master's in Education at Eastern Michigan University ('22).
I started my teaching career at Dearborn Public Schools and worked as a math and science teacher there for four years, as well as serving as the assistant coach for the girls' swim team. The 2021-22 school year was my first year teaching at Divine Child High School and I am ready for another amazing year in our fine community.
My husband Ben, and I are grateful to be part of the wonderful community of Divine Child. Ben is a graduate ('11) from Divine Child High School and in 2019, we were married at Divine Child by Fr. Bob. We live in the Dearborn Heights area with our husky, Archer, and enjoy camping, gardening, and summer bonfires.

I would like to thank the committee and the administration for entrusting me to be part of the spiritual, athletic, academic, and social growth of the student-athletes of the great Divine Child.
I attended St. Clement high school from 2000-2004 where I played for Catholic League Hall of Fame Coach, David Feldman.
I began my coaching career at Oak Park High School and Joe Dumars Field House in 2009. I coached at the collegiate level for four seasons. Boys Bowling - Rahszene Griffin
I am excited to be working with the Divine Child bowling program for the first time. I have been an avid bowler recreationally and look forward to being a part of this team. I have been a part of the Divine Child family for 3 years; in the classroom as a substitute teacher, and as the Head JV Football coach.
I am a 1987 graduate of Southfield High School where I cultivated a profound affinity for music and sports. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Olivet College. I have also attended the University of Phoenix, while working toward a master’s degree in elementary education. I am a retired 20-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department. I have been involved in youth programs, academics, and athletics for as long as I can remember. Wrestling
Wrestling - Joe Russo
I am grateful and feel blessed to join the Divine Child community and extremely excited to have this role of leading this wrestling program. I aim to build a competitive program that will last for generations to come.
For the past 21 years wrestling has been more than a sport for me, it's been a lifestyle and a place where I learned the skills to live and how to build a family.
I began wrestling and playing football as a sophomore in 2001 at Boys Town High School in Nebraska. I am a graduate of Peru State College in Nebraska where I played football and earned a bachelor's in business management.
I began coaching wrestling my freshman year in college as a volunteer at HTRS High in Humboldt, Nebraska. I was hired as the head coach the following season and coached for three more years while in school.
This will be my 16th season as a coach and 5th season as a head coach. For seven seasons I coached under my mentor, Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Rick DeRoiser at Massebesic High School.
I teach 5th grade at Hamtramck Academy and run a nonprofit mentoring program for individuals 18-25, primarily kids aging out of group homes and foster care.
I am married to my amazing wife Jennifer and have three awesomely wild children, Mason (10), Layla (4) and Michael (2). We have lived in Livonia for three years and look forward to continuing to serve in the community through Divine Child Wrestling.

Boys Golf - Jason Jackett
Hello! My name is Jason Jackett and I am the Boys Varsity Golf coach here at Divine Child High School. I am very excited to introduce myself to you and I would love the opportunity to get to know you better and welcome you into our Boys Golf program and family whether you are a prospective student-athlete, a family member or relative of a golfer, and alumnus, or a friend of Divine Child Parish and Schools.
I grew up in Livonia, MI and attended St. Michael’s Grade School, Catholic Central High School, and Franciscan University. After college I did two years of missionary work in Belize before entering the seminary. After 5 years of formation, I discerned that God was calling me to the lay married vocation. After completing my studies at the Angelicum in Rome, I came back to the US and started teaching Theology at Catholic Central. During my nine years there, I coached basketball and ran the JV Golf program. I met my wife Beth early on in my teaching/coaching career and we have four beautiful children–Ethan, Thomas, Sophia, and Carmela. I am grateful to Beth for supporting me in coaching and making it possible.
I started teaching Theology at Divine Child in 2019 and took over the Boys Golf program in 2020. Divine Child has been a wonderful blessing for our family: Beth also teaches Spanish here, we are parishioners, and our children attend the elementary school. I would love it if you would consider becoming part of our DC Boys Golf family. We have been working hard to build a culture of hard work, character, and excellence. My goals are to help form student-athletes into responsible young men through the game of golf and to build a dynamic Boys Golf program that advances the Divine Child mission and makes the DC community proud. Any help you can provide in advancing those goals would be welcomed and appreciated.

Originally from Western New York, I played this wonderful sport for 13 years. I am a graduate of Fredonia State ('94) and Penn State University in '97 (MBA). My wife Dina is a graduate of Divine Child ('87). I have two daughters that attended DC from 1st grade through graduation, Marina ('19) and Amber ('21). Both girls are current students at Michigan State University. Our son Tyler ('24) is a current Junior at DCHS who plays both football and lacrosse.
Currently, I am the Director of North American Supply Chain for Lumileds, a global leader in LED and OEM lighting solutions.

In football, he was known for an electric running style on kick returns, punt returns, and plays from the wide receiver position. He was honorable mention All-State, two-time All-Area, All SAC Conference, All City, and All Suburban. Coach Hall played college football at Eastern Michigan University and majored in Speech and Communications. He is top 20 in EMU history for receptions, yards, kick returns, and punt returns. Girls Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse - Grace Savage
My name is Grace Savage, and I am the Girls Lacrosse Varsity Head coach here at Divine Child. This will be my 5th year as a coach at Divine Child and my 4th year as the Varsity Coach. I have been with this program since it started back in 2019. My high school varsity coach came out of retirement to help start the program here and he had reached out to me looking for a JV coach. It had been a dream of mine to be able to learn from him, so I jumped at the opportunity to be able to work with him. When he decided to go back into retirement, I graciously stepped up to be the varsity coach. In our short time of being a program we were CHSL regular season champs for 21 and 22 and made back-to-back appearances in the CHSL finals winning it in 22. I was also honored to be chosen by the MWLCA as the Division 2 Coach of the Year.
I am a graduate of Salem High School ('13) and attended Ursuline College ('17) where I graduated with bachelor's degrees in Biology and Mathematics. I started playing lacrosse as a junior in high school and then continued playing on scholarship at Ursuline College. I was a 4-year starter in college and primarily played defense and midfield. Prior to picking up lacrosse I was a soccer player. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to be a coach but I had always assumed it would be soccer. I am so thankful to be able to give back to the sport that has given me so much and to coach for an incredible school with amazing student athletes and athletic department. Outside of Divine Child I also have spent 5 years coaching travel lacrosse for Triumph Lacrosse.
Currently I work as a Product Development Analyst for Ford Motor Company.
Girls Soccer
Girls Soccer - Robert Grden
I am humbled and proud to be named the new Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer Team at Divine Child. This will be my 10th season with the Women’s Team, and I have completed 12 seasons with the Men’s Team as a JV coach. I’ve had the pleasure to either play for or coach with some of the best coaches in Divine Child history including Eric Haley, Dean Kowalski, Jeff Luttrell, and Brian Leslie. From my time with them, I have gathered extensive knowledge which will help in this upcoming season and for many years to come. Our main goal is always to be a faith filled team with players who play smart and hard.
I am a graduate of Divine Child Elementary ’06 and High School ’10. After high school, I went on to earn a Communications Degree with a minor in Business Management from the University of Michigan Dearborn. I work for the State of Michigan, where I have been since 2017.
I currently live in Taylor with my wonderful wife, Kristin, who I married at Divine Child in October 2022. Kristin and I enjoy spending time together with family and friends. If we are not at home, we enjoy traveling, especially to tropical destinations.

Girls Track and Field
Girls Track and Field - James Shannon
I am pleased to officially begin the 2023 season as the newly appointed head coach for the Girls Track and Field Program at Divine Child.
I've stayed pretty close to the metro area throughout my life, as a proud Catholic School alumnus, from Christ the Good Shepherd Elementary in Lincoln Park in 1989, to Detroit Catholic Central in 1993.
My coaching career began in 1994 at Southgate Aquinas High School, followed with my first head coaching role with Our Lady of Mt Carmel High School in Wyandotte in 1995--during which time I met Mark Carpenter, who was incredibly supportive of me coaching. Upon completion of my Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1998, I stepped away from coaching to pursue a career in Marketing and Sales at Sprint Nextel Corporation and start a family. After heading back to school to earn an MBA from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2010, I was asked to return to coaching by the legendary Tony Mifsud, this time at Divine Child Elementary School, where I was the CYO Track and Cross Country Coach through 2021. In 2022, I made my way across the parking lot to serve as an assistant coach for both the Girls Track and Cross Country teams at DC High School.
Women's running has grown in popularity exponentially since the time I had competed in high school, and I firmly believe that this sport can continue to do so much for young student athletes, regardless if they're looking to join a team sport for the first time, or they're looking to earn a varsity letter, or they're looking to stand on top of the podium at the last meet of the season.
I've witnessed this first hand in so many of the athletes I've had the privilege of coaching here at DC, especially with my two daughters, Madelynn (DC 2020) and Meredith (DC 2024) who have competed for the Falcons in both Elementary School and High School. I look forward to being the steward of a championship legacy with this program.
I live in Allen Park with my wife of 21 years, Emily, who has been incredibly supportive of my role as a coach. I currently work for Ford Motor Company as a product designer.
