Divine Child’s boy’s cross-country team six year winning streak has ended atthe Erie-Mason “Frank Connelly” Relays. With a rebuilding program, the Falcon ran well but placed third in the team competition with 51 points. Winning the event was New Boston Huron with 21 points, followed by Monroe Jefferson with 36 points. Divine Child edged out St. Mary Catholic Central who also score 51 points, as DC had the best fourth place relay team. Erie-Mason was fifth, 53 points and Carlson Airport took sixth place with 56 points. This event scores the first three relay teams from each school to determine the winner. Divine Child was able to place 7th, 20th and 24th. Each runner runs one mile each, three times in a relay style format. The top three DC teams were junior Matthew Fuqua (6:38.18 APM) and junior Colin Murray (5:00.25 APM) for an overall time of 33 minutes 59.29 seconds; Junior Tamer Zahr (5:50.17 APM) and senior Robert Modrzejewski (6:22.66 APM) for 36:40.78; and, senior Ethan Lewis (6:00.52 APM) and junior Maximiliano Juarez (6:26.66 APM).

The team of Abdul Ghennewa and Lucas Kuhn of New Boston Huran was the first place relay team with a good time of 31 minutes and 25.5 seconds. The next five teams, who was ahead of Divine Child’s Matthew Fuqua and Colin Murray were: Nate Vargo and Jake Stanislawski of Flat Rock, 2nd – 31:58.5; Keegan Masters and Zach Kahn of Whiteford, 3rd – 32:33.0; Callum Bell and Willam Dobbertin of Carlson Airport, 4th – 33:03.7; Max Foldvary and Simon Vandervluch of St. Mary’s Catholic Central, 5th – 33:09.4; and, Lucas Worrell and Luke Dulecki of New Boston Huron, 6th – 33:27.7. Divine Child had seven other relay teams that competed. Placing 29th was Joseph Arriola (Fr) and Nicholas Nakic (Jr) with a time of 38:37.57; placing 34th was Charlie Murray (Sr) and Tyler Kalchik (Sr), 40:20.58; placing 50th was Brandan Miller (Fr) and Liam Godin (So), 42:46.45; placing 52nd was Christian Howarth (Jr) and Gabriel Luncioni (So), 43:08.39; Sami Sayara (So) and Conor VanBuhler (So), 47:47.61; Ahmad Fawaz (Sr) and Matthew Khzouz (So), 51:14.04; and, Alexander Thomas (So) and Luke Rancour (Fr), 1 hour 21 minutes and 2.60 seconds. There was a total of 84 relay team that were entered.
Divine Child is scheduled to run Saturday, September 9th in the “Rambling Rock Invitational” at Willow Metropark in New Boston Huron, MI at 10:10AM. On Friday, September 15th in the “MSU Spartan Invitational” at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing at 3:10PM.
