Applied Arts

All levels of expertise are accepted-from very basic beginners to those with some sewing experience. Topics covered include: fabric and pattern selection, use of the pattern, basic garment construction, as well as sleeves, collars, buttonholes, pockets and zippers.

Fees: Students must purchase their own supplies.

Students will explore quilting techniques and complete a quilt over the semester.

This course allows the student to develop various skills and techniques needed in preparing food. Labs include quick breads, yeast breads, cookies, milk, cheese, fruits, and vegetables. Units in label reading and table etiquette are also included. Special attention is given to the importance of nutrition in the daily diet.

This course adds to the student’s basic knowledge of food preparation. The student will apply basic food preparation techniques to pastry products as well as earn the science behind the art of baking which affords them the opportunity to explore an entrepreneur project in which students develop a cookie recipe, package, advertise, and sell pastry products.

This course places emphasis on the preparation of various ethnic foods and study of European culture.
