The theater department has been a member of the Educational Theater Association since the mid 1970's, and has performed at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska five times, Students have performed at the State conference every year since 1993. The department won the National award for publicity and promotion of the Theater in Our Schools campaign in 2001. The program has also been recognized four times by the administrators of the Fringe Festival in Scotland, by nominating the school to perform with the American Theater Festival. Director Karen Pritchard has been inducted into the Dearborn Theater Hall of Fame, and has received the Mayor's Arts Educator of the Year award. She has also been nominated for the Disney Teacher of the year award, and appears in Who's Who in Teaching six different years. Both P. Michael Foye and Jackie Bacus are also members of the Dearborn Theater Hall of Fame. The students, directors, and designers have won numerous PAGE awards from best production to best director since its inception. A typical season consists of a full length play in the fall, a musical in the spring, student directed one acts, a touring children's show, and a competition show to bring to festivals. The school has an International Thespian society. The society honors theater arts, and drama club, with over 125 members.
