Transgressions and Disciplinary Actions

Classroom teachers are responsible for establishing/enforcing their class rules and procedures. Failure to follow class rules may result in a detention.

Any student who consistently receives detention (more than 4 per semester) is considered non-compliant and is subject to a disciplinary review with the Administration.

The following acts are some examples of inappropriate conduct and are therefore subject to detention:

  1. Repeated disruptive conduct - conduct which continues to interfere with the educational process, even after parental contact
  2. Disrespectful toward adult or fellow students
  3. Violations of the dress code
  4. Failure to use passes properly
  5. Failure to present current ID on request
  6. Failure to follow the absentee procedure
  7. Failure to park in assigned areas or follow parking procedures
  8. Unauthorized use of computer software or hardware
  9. Any inappropriate physical or verbal display of affection, between any individuals regardless of gender
  10. Consumption of food/drinks outside of the cafeteria
  11. Inappropriate language or gestures (written, vocal or visual)
  12. Loitering (in building without specific purpose or permission)

Detention is held every day before school. Students must check in by 6:50. Late arriving students will not be permitted entry. Seniors with zero hour may serve their detention 7th hour with Mr. Hermann. Detentions must be served within two days of receipt. Failure to comply will result in additional service time. For every day a student is late, 15 minutes will be accrued. Service hours must be completed before the beginning of the next semester. Failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on all student records (transcripts, schedule, athletic participation, etc.) Students may serve these service hours on "service days" that will be announced throughout the semester.

It is the policy of the school that an out-of-school suspension is a carefully chosen method to remove the student from a situation in which he/she is hurting his/her own educational opportunities or those of others. The length and type of suspension may be determined not only by a correlation with the severity of a school infraction, but also by the amount of time it can be expected to take to assess the cause of the student's difficulty and to plan remedial action. Suspension is a separation of a student from the academic and social life of the school for a temporary period of time, from 1 to 10 days. The following conditions prevail for a suspended student:

  1. The student is to remain away from the school building and the grounds during the time of the suspension.
  2. The student is excluded from all school functions for the duration of the suspension.
  3. Students suspended from school must use Edline and information from friends to keep up with work. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to provide this information. Upon returning to school following a suspension, all work missed is due and any quizzes or tests missed, must be made up that day.
  4. Suspension will require parental notification.

The following acts are some examples of inappropriate conduct that are subject to a suspension. Depending on the offense, students may be required to perform Service Hours under the supervision of the Administration.

  1. Insubordination - open defiance of school personnel
  2. Skipping class and/or required activities
  3. Speeding and/or careless driving on school property or the immediate surrounding area
  4. Vandalizing school or individual's property (restitution must be made)
  5. Theft and/or possession of stolen property
  6. Leaving campus without authorized permission
  7. Use and/or possession of alcohol and illegal drugs
  8. Possessing/smoking/chewing tobacco on school premises, the immediate surrounding area, or at a school related activity
  9. Falsifying a parent's/guardian's signature
  10. Cheating and/or copying the work of another
  11. Repeated violations of established rules
  12. Computer vandalism (hardware, software, network, etc.)
  13. Fighting/physical violence on school property, before or after school, or at school sponsored functions
  14. Physical and/or verbal harassment/intimidation
  15. Obscene language or gestures (written, vocal or visual)

The following acts and other inappropriate conduct are considered grave-most serious and are therefore subject to expulsion:

  1. Serious disrespect for school personnel and/or any person
  2. Malicious vandalism
  3. Exchange or sale of illegal drugs and/or alcohol in school or the immediate surrounding area
  4. Second offense for use and/or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs and/or being under the influence
  5. Theft and/or possession of stolen property
  6. Gross misconduct - conduct detrimental to the normal functioning of the school
  7. Violations of local/state ordinances and laws
  8. Possession of a weapon on school property/school related activity (mandated by State law)
  9. False fire alarms

Repeated disregard for school policy may result in a disciplinary review to be conducted by the Adminisration.
