Well, not quite, but the Divine Child Forensics Team comes close! We tour and compete all over the state of Michigan, travel in the comfort of the D.C. Falcons' school bus, and stay at moderately-priced hotels. Our D.C. Forensics Team members are rich in talent, and someday may be famous!!!
"Forensics" is competitive public speaking and oral interpretation of literature. 12 diverse events are available for student competition, 6 in public address and 6 in oral interpretation. Public address categories are: sales, broadcasting, informative, oratory, impromptu, and extemporaneous speaking. Interpretation events include: drama, prose, poetry, and storytelling. Interpretation events also include duo interpretation for 2 competitors, and multiple interpretation for a group of 3-8 students. All 12 events are open to all 9th - 12th graders, and one public address event and one interpretation event each year are just for 9th and 10th graders.
It's 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday and you're on a freezing cold bus headed to the middle of Michigan. Who are you? You are a member of the Divine Child Forensics Team! No other activity has such dedicated and passionate members that they travel so early several Saturday mornings full of vigor and spunk, and diversity! We have public speakers and actor/interpreters yet each and every member has common interests and goals. Because of this, members do not have to go far to find a friend. "Forensicators" are typically outgoing and friendly, which definitely creates a fun and easygoing atmosphere.
The team often travels long distances to competitions, which means long bus rides with more than enough time to enjoy spirited activities and the company of others. Tournament travels include stops at Birch Run where team members are given time to shop at the impressive outlet mall as well as enjoy a family-style meal every year at Frankenmuth's Bavarian Inn. Members plan holiday parties and team dinners throughout the year.
The Divine Child Forensics Team has several overnight trips; and all members compete at 4 - 6 tournaments each year and, if qualified, compete at the Regional tournament, and may qualify at Regionals to advance to the State Finals. These opportunities allow students to have unique experiences that boost confidence and help them gain lifelong friends as well as prepare them for a variety of future careers. Students who qualify as State Finalists may earn a Varsity letter. So, if you are considering joining the award-winning forensics team, remember that although it is work, it is, most importantly, rewarding, exciting and fun!
Mrs. Tar, the head coach, is available to answer questions or concerns about the Forensics Team daily, during ALL lunch hours, in Speech lab, room 104. Also check the "Forensics Team" information case outside the cafeteria for updated information on a daily basis.
Each year there is a general informational meeting for all interested students in early October. Team tryouts follow in mid-October. ALL ARE WELCOME TO TRYOUT - grades 9-12.
