Our Day

The school day begins at 7:00 a.m. and runs through 2:30 p.m. Each day consists of seven 52-minute class periods and a 30 minute lunch. The school building opens at 6:00 a.m. Students are allowed to remain in the building most days until 5:00 p.m.

Uniforms

Students at Divine Child are required to be in uniform every day except on special Jeans Days, Spirit Days, Costume Days, or Dress-Up Days, which are communicated throughout the year. Required uniforms must be purchased at Schoolbelles (school code: S2299) and are as follows:

Girls' Uniforms


  • Uniform kilt (solid black or plaid), middle of knee length.
  • Long or short-sleeved white banded button-down collar for entire school year, or
  • Optional DC logo red or white short-sleeved polo for first and fourth quarters.
  • Dress shoes with knee socks.
  • Uniform DC logo fleece.

Boys' Uniforms


  • Khaki chino slacks with Schoolbelles logo and belt.
  • Long or short-sleeved white button-down oxford shirt with tie for entire school year, or
  • Optional DC logo red or black short-sleeved polo for first and fourth quarters.
  • Dress shoes with socks.
  • Uniform DC logo fleece.

Extracurriculars

Divine Child is proud to offer a variety of fun and enriching extracurricular activities. You'll find that there's something for everyone!

Anime Club


Explores Japanese animation in its various forms and takes an in-depth look at Japanese culture and traditions.

Art Studio


Students interested in Fine Arts, crafts and sewing meet to work on individual art projects of their choosing.

Boys Varsity Club


Promotes service, good sportsmanship, and leadership, also sponsors an annual charity basketball game against DC faculty and staff

Car Club


Car enthusiasts meet regularly to discuss new models, old models, performance, simple maintenance, modifications and other auto related topics. Members go on field trips to shows, museums and competitive events.

Chess Tournament


Students compete in annual tournaments for the Divine Child High School Chess Championship Trophy.

Choral Club


Members participate in concerts and the Show Choir. This vocal group performs at various events in the community.

Co-Ed Intramural Sports


Bowling, Ping Pong and Tennis

Culinary Arts Club


Students compete for the title of DC Iron Chef.

"Faith in Action" Online Student Newspaper


In 2012, Divine Child High School launched an online student newspaper: "Faith in Action," which replaces the much-loved, but obsolete, printed newspaper, the "DsCene."

Forensics Team


Divine Child's award-winning Forensics Team was the 2010 State Finalist and has been one of the top three teams in Michigan since 2005. We've had 20 individual State Champions in the past 10 years! As a team member, you can choose one of 12 events in competitive speaking, broadcasting, drama, sales, poetry, impromptu, storytelling, informative, prose, and more. The Forensics Team is open to grades nine through twelve, in which you can earn a Varsity letter as well as individual and team awards.

Genealogy Club


Teaches research techniques to find ancestry and family history.

German, Greek, Latin, and Spanish Clubs


Exposure to cultures of the world through a variety of fun and educational activities, including a soccer World Cup pitting club against club.

International Thespian Society & Drama Club


An international honor society which recognizes outstanding achievements in the performing arts. Students will earn honor points toward membership by being involved in the fine arts department productions, crews, attending workshops and field trips.

Lacrosse Club - Boys


A spring season club that competes with other local Catholic high schools.

Medical Club


Members explore careers in medicine through guest speakers and visits to hospital and healthcare facilities.

National Honor Society


Juniors and seniors are invited by the faculty to join based on a 3.7 cumulative GPA and demonstrated leadership, service, and good character.

Pro-Life Club


An organization of students who support and celebrate life in all of its forms.

S.A.D.D. Club


Students Against Destructive Decisions. Promotes a drug and alcohol free environment.

Science Club


Teams engage in Tech Day U of D, Knowledge Masters, and Science Olympiad.

Student Council


Young men and women chosen by their respective classes to represent them as a voice for the entire student body. The council conducts various school, social, community and service projects and activities.

Performing Arts

The performing arts include vocal and instrumental music, theater and playwriting.

Vocal and Instrumental Music


Students participating in the performing arts compete in the annual Solo-Ensemble Festival on both the local and state levels each year. Performing arts groups include the choirs and the bands: the Jazz Band, the Marching Band, the Symphonic Band, the Pep Band, and the Pit Orchestra for the Spring musical.

In early 2011, the Divine Child Marching Band performed at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. In November 2011, this same talented group marched in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade! Other performances include:

Theater and Playwriting


The Theater Department produces two full-length shows annually: a Fall drama and a Spring musical. In addition, they produce and perform comedy improvisations and student-directed one-act plays.

For the 2011-2012 academic year, Divine Child High School presented “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”

Divine Child plays have won national, state and local awards for over 30 years. In additon, the Theater Department has been invited to perform at the Fringe Festival in Scotland six times.

The Divine Child High School Theater Department is a member of the National Educational Theater Association, the Michigan Educational Theater Association, the Dearborn Community Arts Council and the Dearborn Area Theater Association.

Fine Arts

Students participating in the applied arts program showcase their work in the annual Atrium Art Show and at the annual Fashion Show and Tea. Fine arts students work in conjunction with the theater program to produce costumes for the plays.

Divine Child student films have won awards and graphic art students have worked with renowned ad agencies. A number of Divine Child alumni enjoy careers as museum curators, gallery owners, set designers, illustrators, actors and producers.
